Excursions in high atlas with an optional walk Leaving Marrakesh; the hustle and bustle of the city soon gives way to the hills and deep gorges of the High Atlas.
The scenery changes dramatically as we wind our way upwards. Small, stone built, flat-roofed houses nestle in villages beneath towering stark brown peaks. Every now and again a burst of vibrant green palms and grasses, and fields of healthy crops, denote where water is present just below the apparently dry ‘lunar landscape' surface
We shall take our lunch in the village of Imlile , a pretty village familiar to any who have trodden the path up North Africa's highest peak, Jebel Toubkal .
Exploring the village and, no doubt, enjoying some exchanges with the local children, we shall dine on traditional Moroccan fare in one of the local's houses. Those who wish can head out on a two to three hour walk to stretch the legs and get a better feel for the sheer grandeur of the Atlas. We return to Marrakesh for the evening.
